THE SAND DUNES
Information on the Sand Dunes and National Recreational Area:
The Oregon Dunes are not only the largest sand dunes in the USA, they are also unique in the world as they have a diversity of environments all coming together in one 40 mile stretch of more than 31,000 acres. More than 30 lakes, rivers, streams, ocean, estuaries, sloughs, forest, and desert landscape all blend into one spectacular ecosystem of beauty and diversity.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA) extends from Florence to Coos Bay. It contains 30 freshwater lakes, countless miles of hiking trails and over 40 percent of the area is open to off-road vehicles, making it a favorite tourist destination for dune buggies, sand rails, quads and motorcycles.
Reedsport is the information hub for the ODNRA. At the information center you can find tips about hiking, dune buggy rental, wildlife, fishing, and tourist information. There is fishing, waterskiing and boating on Siltcoos, Tahkenitch and Ten Mile Lakes which makes each of them great recreation choices.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area has many hidden beaches, developed and undeveloped hiking trails, thirty lakes, 13 campgrounds, and plenty of beach parking areas. With more than 10,000 acres open to ATV and sand vehicles – the Oregon Dunes are one of the most popular locations on the west coast for off road sand fun.
Winchester Bay offers a great riding experience on the tallest dunes on the Oregon Coast. Bring your OHV and enjoy easy access to acres of open sand. Find out more information about riding in Winchester Bay, as well as where you can rent an OHV to enjoy the dunes by clicking here.
